Announced at the Rising Star Awards Ceremony on October 17, BerryDunn won the People’s Choice Award from Stay Work Play NH, recognizing New Hampshire’s young workforce and the businesses that go the extra mile to recruit and retain them.
A panel of judges, comprised of young professionals from across New Hampshire, chose six finalists for the Coolest Companies for Young Professionals award category. Three companies were selected: BerryDunn (Manchester, NH), C&S Wholesale Grocers (Keene, NH) and Mainstay Technologies (Belmont and Manchester, NH). Of the top three, BerryDunn was selected as the “People’s Choice” winner through online public voting.
Stay Work Play NH’s Coolest Companies for Young Professionals Award recognizes companies that have implemented strategies to attract and retain young employees in a fun, supportive work environment, and set an example for all businesses. As an independent nonprofit, Stay Work Play NH strives to retain more of the 20 and 30-year-old demographic in the Granite State.
“Time and again, people who have chosen to work for BerryDunn say the decision was easy after meeting some of the people here and getting a feel for our supportive culture,” says Mike Jurnak, Principal-in-Charge at the Manchester office. “A career in public accounting and consulting requires solid relationships with clients and co-workers. Our clients often tell us that we’ve got the nicest people in the world—and that’s because our people genuinely love working with our clients.”
With a 45-year history, BerryDunn now has 459 employees nationwide, and 53 work in New Hampshire. Almost half, or 48 percent of their employees, are age 40 and under. “BerryDunn is committed to finding smart, talented people who are up to the task and who have the right attitude to make it happen,” says Director of Recruiting Sarah Olson. “We’re able to attract young people because we are passionate about helping companies, nonprofits, and government agencies solve problems.”
BerryDunn encourages employees to serve on charitable boards and committees for New Hampshire organizations including the Adult Learning Center, Girls at Work, Granite United Way, and High Hopes Foundation of NH. Employees also contribute volunteer time at food and clothing drives, soup kitchens, gardening and building projects, and a variety of United Way opportunities that promote team building and community involvement.
“To encourage talent to stay, work, and play in New Hampshire, we listen to what employees care about and make that investment with them,” says CEO John Chandler. BerryDunn has employees in nearly all 50 states with offices spanning the country from Portland, Maine, to Phoenix, Arizona—a hub for engagement in the West and Southwest, including Texas and California.
