Challenge
A multi-campus skilled nursing and assisted living health system had recently implemented new electronic health record, billing, and financial software, but was not yet making full use of system functionality. Even with the new software, their team members were still highly reliant on manual and paper-intensive processes. Additionally, turnover in senior positions had left staff without leadership during this period of system transition.
Solution
BerryDunn’s team helped the client:
- Understand the methods of gaining consensus and buy-in for necessary improvements
- Document, analyze, and modify business processes through collaborative mapping work sessions
- Create task-oriented action plans to improve staff accountability
- Establish a methodology to provide structure for continuing process improvement and collaboration within the business office
Outcome
The health system benefits from improved business processes, fewer redundant and manual steps, and the increased benefits of full-system functionality. Daily, weekly, and monthly tasks were able to be streamlined and standardized – reducing variation, delays, and down-stream problems. The software also became a mechanism for the team to increase communication and collaboration.
