The Telergee Benchmark Study: Peer comparison for telecom improvement

Each year, the Telergee Benchmark Study provides telecom companies with detailed data on key performance metrics, covering areas that include operation and process excellence, innovation production, and workforce planning. This study is completed by the Telergee Alliance, a national network of CPA firms with expertise in the telecommunications. BerryDunn is a member of the Alliance, and works closely with other participating firms to provide analysis used by leading telecom firms to identify savings opportunities, highlight company strengths, and set goals for improvement.

Participating telecom companies, selected by Alliance members, receive a scorecard that compares individual results with others in similar size and service classifications. The results also provide direct comparisons with national averages, allowing participating telecom companies to benchmark their performance—and identify areas for improvement. The study gathers and compares data from approximately 180 nationwide rural incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) and includes key measurements related to:

  • Asset allocations, liabilities, debt, and equity
  • Revenue, expense, and profitability
  • Competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) data
  • Federal and state support levels
  • Plant investment
  • Nonregulated investments and operations, particularly wireless, internet, and cable TV
  • Service penetrations and customer counts
  • Payroll and staffing data
  • Forecasted income and investment information
  • Credit rating definitions and scores
