Challenge
The Village of Oak Park was seeking to replace its legacy community development system as it lacked functionality in many areas, including limited GIS integration, e-government functions, and mobile access. Selecting a new system was a critical component of its efforts to more efficiently serve the community’s development needs.
Approach
To identify unmet community development system needs and identify corresponding requirements, BerryDunn was engaged to develop an RFP for a modern community development system, evaluate and select a vendor, and negotiate contracts.
Village stakeholders participated in all project phases and provided current environment documentation, responded to a user survey, and participated in fact finding meetings, requirements planning work sessions, and vendor demonstrations.
Outcomes
The project resulted in an executed contract with the preferred vendor. The Village of Oak Park currently enjoys the following efficiencies and improvements:
- Improved workflow and reporting functions, supporting more internal and public transparency into Village processes.
- Increased e-government functionality, allowing citizens and contractors to conduct planning, permitting, inspections, and code enforcement functions online.
- Reduced reliance on manual and paper-based processes.
- Increased use of GIS across all system modules.
