Client Description
A state health department operating multiple public health clinics across the state
Challenge
In order to better serve its patients, maintain compliance with federal program priorities, and remain eligible for federal funding, the department needed to procure an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Given existing process inefficiencies — including patient data being located in paper and disparate systems across clinics — the department needed assistance understanding the challenges and opportunities in the current environment, creating a vision for an improved future environment, and developing technical and functional requirements and a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the EHR.
Solution
BerryDunn’s health and human services consulting team worked closely with department stakeholders and leadership to:
- Document and assess the current environment, including business processes and EHR system needs
- Identify key considerations, challenges, and recommendations for navigating the transition from legacy systems and processes to a new solution with improved workflows
- Define a comprehensive set of functional and technical EHR system requirements
- Develop a RFP for the procurement of the EHR system
- Provide oversight for the procurement process
Outcome
The department has a clear vision for the future system and how it will improve clinical operations statewide while maintaining compliance with federal regulations and program priorities. They also better understand industry EHR systems and what functionality will help them optimize business processes and improve care in their clinics.
